CD Projekt Red is planning official mod integration and additional modding tools in The Witcher 3 update for next-gen PC.
In a post on the official CD Projekt Red forum, a developer spoke about plans for mod compatibility. It’s been six years since the last major update for the PC version, so it’s inevitable that a new update will change core files in such a way that some mods will become unusable. In this message CD Projekt Red has compiled a list of the most popular Witcher 3 mods to see if they are compatible with the upcoming patch. For example, compatible mods include the All Quest Objectives On Map mod and the Over 9000 Weight Limit mod. Incompatible mods include Always Full Exp and Slots Slots Slots.
Please note that this list is based on CD Projekt Red’s own testing. Features of your setup or installed mods, changes made to the patch since the list was compiled, or future updates may change your compatibility. A team of modding experts will also help modders fix compatibility issues once the patch is released.
Along with the update will be a new version of the Witcher 3 modding command line tool called Modkit. It will fix various pre-existing bugs and will be adapted for the new version of the game. Wolvenkit, the all-in-one editing and modding tool for The Witcher 3, is also getting a new update.
The work of several modders was also included in the update with the permission of the creators, who have received compensation and will be credited. These mods have been reworked and modified as needed. The Witcher 3 update will also include a new photo mode, a Netflix-inspired quest, and various visual improvements. The update will be released on December 14 for free.
