Today, Google Play Games is launching in open beta in the US, allowing anyone to try out a range of Android games on PC. Google launched an initial beta version of the software on Windows PCs earlier this year, but it was limited to Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan. Today’s launch means the service’s beta will expand to the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Available games include 1945 Air Force, Blade Idle, Cookie Run: Kingdom, and Evony: The King’s Return. The app even syncs progress between PC and mobile so you can pick up where you left off across platforms. Although Google continues to add games to the Play Games catalog, there are currently only 85 games available on the service worldwide.
Minimum specifications:
- Windows 10 (version 2004)
- Solid State Drive (SSD)
- GPU Intel UHD Graphics 630 or equivalent
- 4 physical CPU cores
- 8 GB RAM
- 10 GB free disk space
- Windows administrator account
- Hardware virtualization must be enabled
- Compatible device and PC configuration
“We are very excited to expand our platform to more markets so that players can enjoy their favorite games on Google Play,” said Arjun Dayal, director of Google Play Games. “As we get closer to the full release, we will continue to add new features and evaluate developer and player feedback.”
Google Play Games is different from Microsoft’s work in porting Android apps to Windows 11. Instead, Microsoft has partnered with Amazon and offers games and apps from the Amazon app store on its latest OS. Microsoft built the core Windows Subsystem for Android into Windows 11, but Google has created its own standalone app to bring its games from Google Play for Android to PC.
