Starfield fans have already made out tiny snippets of new gameplay footage shown amid today’s release date announcement.
As Todd Howard talked about the game’s new release date and the upcoming June Starfield Direct, footage from the game could be seen on the TV behind him and on the developer’s screens throughout the video. While these videos offered little more than a glimpse of Starfield, fans are happy with what they see.
“Is it just me, or does the gameplay in the background look much smoother than what we saw last year?” – writes one. Another describes it as “smooth as butter” and another thinks factors like frame rate and lighting also look better than they did in the past.
Of course, it’s worth noting that Bethesda has full control over these frames, and it’s likely that everything shown here is running on a heavy-duty PC, and frames with fps dips may have been cut. However, regardless of hardware performance, the trailer also reveals a whole host of new gameplay details. And like any gaming community that waits patiently for new information, gamers are already looking into every detail they can see.
Highlights include the return of the looting system from Fallout 4, the confirmation of various types of armor including thermal, air, corrosive and radiation (as well as many different helmets), and many “horrors beyond your imagination.” Less popular is the fact that the experience bar in Starfield is still under the crosshair.
On the Starfield subreddit, fans are intent on combing through the cutscenes, so we’ll probably find out more in the coming days.
