Evanna Lynch is the latest Harry Potter star to comment on the ongoing controversy over the gender beliefs of author and franchise creator J.K. Rowling, who is constantly criticized by a small group of people, but very loud. Lynch starred in the Harry Potter film franchise as the quirky Luna Lovegood. Back in 2020, Lynch had to delete her Twitter account after commenting on the Rowling controversy.
At the time, Lynch was rebuffed for supporting Rowling. In a new interview with The Telegraph, Lynch opened up about her relationship with Rowling. They first met long before Lynch joined the Harry Potter films. The actress was 11 years old, living with anorexia and wrote Rowling a letter about her struggles. The writer responded and sent “delightful, wise letters” to Lynch while she was recovering.
Lynch said the backlash against Rowling surprised her, “especially when she spoke about her experiences in her unhappy first marriage.”
I just felt that her character was always aimed at protecting the most vulnerable members of society. The problem is that there is disagreement about who is the most vulnerable. I wish people would just show her more mercy and listen to her.
